Summary:
Ellamara and Brian are finally together. She has a truce of sorts with her father and is working harder on her relationship with her step sisters. Unfortunately,
now that everything is in the open, everyone has an opinion on Ella and Brian and the strongest opinions come from Ella. All fairy tales need a happily ever after, but the new attention on the couple may cause them to implode before they reach theirs.

Judgments:
I was flirting with the idea that retellings bore me because they always seem to end up being a watered down rendition of the original story. I was obviously a moron when I went through that process.

The first book, Cinder & Ella, was great. I was so impressed by it that it caused me to look into other retellings and I was just bored. So you can imagina that by the time I got to this sequel, I was highly underwhelmed. Have you ever picked up a book and told yourself, this is about to be some BS? No? Just me?
Fine then! I am very happy to say I was wrong though because this sequel was EVERYTHING!

I just feel like you guys need to be made aware of the fact that my MCM next week is going to be Brian Oliver, so stay tuned for that. Now, to get to the meat of all this. Ella has zero self-esteem since the fire and being in the eye of the media only enhances her insecurities. I loved the way Kelly Oram writes about how it feels to be uncomfortable in your own skin. As someone who struggled with being happy with myself physically, I could completely relate to Ella’s aversion to showing her scars. I enjoyed reading about a MC who doesn’t have it together. She has an amazing boyfriend and ridiculously supportive friends, but just could not get it together. I think what I enjoyed even more than her and Brian was the fact that her support system was so strong. I love a book that has an overall positive message! I literally was reading this book like

If you notice, as much as I love Brian, I am skirting around my thoughts on him because I am saving that for my MCM post, but not to worry, it’s coming. The plot was very solid in this book, as was the continuation from the first book. I was practically shocked when the idea of the fashion industry exploiting people who have had traumatic experiences was brought up. The fact that she would even go there just made me adore Kelly Oram even more. Because I work hard to not spoil anything in my reviews, I am holding a lot back like the fact that her dad is a dick head but I think the book is still worth the read. Even though I do have a few things I took issue with. There were some misspellings and grammar issues, which really weren’t a huge deal but they bothered me anyway. Then there the comments about being a “spicy” latina that just made me cringe a bit, but again not legitimate reasons for me to not love this book.
I don’t know if any of you have read either of these books, but if you have, who was your favorite character? Which book did you like better? If you have not read these books, have you read a Kelly Oram book before? Which ones did you read and which is your favorite?

Ciao Book THOTS!

  1. I actually haven’t read many retellings but I don’t know why. I guess I’ve never found one that really jumped out at me. I’ll check this one out because you make it sound so good.
