Basic Overview:
Title: Happily Ever After
Author: Kelly Oram
Book Format:Soft Cover
My Numeric Judgment:
♦SPOILER ALERT♦
There are no fairy God Mothers.
Summary:
Ellamara and Brian are finally together. She has a truce of sorts with her father and is working harder on her relationship with her step sisters. Unfortunately,
now that everything is in the open, everyone has an opinion on Ella and Brian and the strongest opinions come from Ella. All fairy tales need a happily ever after, but the new attention on the couple may cause them to implode before they reach theirs.
Judgments:
I was flirting with the idea that retellings bore me because they always seem to end up being a watered down rendition of the original story. I was obviously a moron when I went through that process.
The first book, Cinder & Ella, was great. I was so impressed by it that it caused me to look into other retellings and I was just bored. So you can imagina that by the time I got to this sequel, I was highly underwhelmed. Have you ever picked up a book and told yourself, this is about to be some BS? No? Just me?
Fine then! I am very happy to say I was wrong though because this sequel was EVERYTHING!
I just feel like you guys need to be made aware of the fact that my MCM next week is going to be Brian Oliver, so stay tuned for that. Now, to get to the meat of all this. Ella has zero self-esteem since the fire and being in the eye of the media only enhances her insecurities. I loved the way Kelly Oram writes about how it feels to be uncomfortable in your own skin. As someone who struggled with being happy with myself physically, I could completely relate to Ella’s aversion to showing her scars. I enjoyed reading about a MC who doesn’t have it together. She has an amazing boyfriend and ridiculously supportive friends, but just could not get it together. I think what I enjoyed even more than her and Brian was the fact that her support system was so strong. I love a book that has an overall positive message! I literally was reading this book like
If you notice, as much as I love Brian, I am skirting around my thoughts on him because I am saving that for my MCM post, but not to worry, it’s coming. The plot was very solid in this book, as was the continuation from the first book. I was practically shocked when the idea of the fashion industry exploiting people who have had traumatic experiences was brought up. The fact that she would even go there just made me adore Kelly Oram even more. Because I work hard to not spoil anything in my reviews, I am holding a lot back like the fact that her dad is a dick head but I think the book is still worth the read. Even though I do have a few things I took issue with. There were some misspellings and grammar issues, which really weren’t a huge deal but they bothered me anyway. Then there the comments about being a “spicy” latina that just made me cringe a bit, but again not legitimate reasons for me to not love this book.
I don’t know if any of you have read either of these books, but if you have, who was your favorite character? Which book did you like better? If you have not read these books, have you read a Kelly Oram book before? Which ones did you read and which is your favorite?
Ciao Book THOTS!
I actually haven’t read many retellings but I don’t know why. I guess I’ve never found one that really jumped out at me. I’ll check this one out because you make it sound so good.

I’ve read multiple retellings that have turned me off of giving others a chance. I do love the fun bold statements and gifs. I get irritated with girls that have no self-esteem and need a man to save them.

Truth but this one has a mouth and thoughts, but because of her accident there are issues. She doesn’t need the man to save her…she curses him out several times for attempting to as well lol.

I haven’t read many but I have enjoyed all of Katy Regnery’s retellings – hers were heart squeezing, and sizzlin’!

I love Kelly Oram! But I haven’t read a book of hers in a long time. I saw a lot of good reviews on this series. Your review makes me want to pick up the first book!

I haven’t read many re-tellings. Perhaps none just jumped out at me. I’ll add this to my ever growing tbr pile though!

Okay I don’t even know what a retelling is. Anyway am gonna Google that in a bit and I might end up adding more books to my TBR pile.

A retelling is telling an old story like Cinderella, with a modern twist.

Oh! You like retellings? I usually don’t. She is the first author who has successfully hooked me.

The spicy Latina stuff gets to be too much for me. I do have a friend that really loves Cinder and Ella though!

Retellings especially of classics and fairy-tales have to be superbly otherwise they just don’t work. I’ve read some that we’re amazing and others that definitely should of never been written. This one sounds okay though.

Yeah I have noticed that. A lot of then tend to stick directly to the story which makes it boring and repetitive. This one was different. I enjoyed both of them.
