I am participating in #T5W and the host Sam of ThoughtsonTomes has decided to grant me the opportunity to be shady!
There are so many books coming out this year and while I am excited about many, there are quite a few that I simply could not even begin to care about.
Defy Me by Tahereh Mafi
Maybe if I had jumped on this wagon when it first started rolling, I would be as excited as everyone else I see? However, I wasn’t. I just see a bunch of books with an eye on the cover and Cyclops books are not quite my style.
Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
I realize everyone was racing about The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo but I was not that girl. I was confused about why the author chose the number seven specifically. Now I realize it was so she can write this book with the number six in it. Anyone want to get her next book will have “Five” in the title?
The Princess and the Fan Girl by Ashley Piston
Unlike my last two choices, this is a book I can speak about from an informed point of view. The last book I read by this author was Geekerella which, while not terrible, felt like a watered down version of Cinder & Ella and I wasn’t here for it. So as of now, I can not share the levels of excitement.
Finale by Stephanie Garber
Caraval swept the YA community by storm and I was obviously nothing but a stump in the ground because I remain unmoved. I have genuinely had no interest in picking up the first book in the trilogy, much less the last.
Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare
I read The Mortal Instruments series and by the last book I was tired of this series and the Shadowverse. I do not understand why we must learn about every single story that has anything to do with the Shadowverse. Is she just stick in this world? Do people just love books about this stuff that much? I just don’t get it.
This wraps up my list of highly anticipated books that I genuinely could not care less about. What are some anticipated books you don’t care about? What are some anticipated books you are looking forward to?
Ciao Book Monsters!
most likely, these will be on a similar list for me

I’ve never read Caraval or Shatter me, so I don’t care for those books lol. I love TMI in general, but I’ve never read the infernal devices or dark artifices series. I personally think Cassie Clare is just so stuck within this world that she HAS to keep writing within this world. It’s draining, I want her to evolve and change her scenery a bit.

Right?!?! I thought I saw another series by her and was excited to try it then I saw “Shadowhunter” and that was the end of that.

Ahh I love the Shatter Me series! I have to disagree with that one, but I have never been a fan of Cassandra Clare or the Caraval series, so I agree on those two fronts!

EYE am glad you love them (see what I did there?)

I liked the Shatter Me series when I read it in 2015, but I hated Restore Me from last year. Defy Me was on my list too.

I never read them. For whatever reason those covers just kept me away.

I just don’t understand the hype surrounding Cassandra Clares books they don’t really appeal to me. Finale however is on my most anticipated list.

I agree with you on Chains of Gold, there is just so much in one universe, 3 books into TMI was enough for me

Maybe the fandom won’t let her let it die?

I actually didn’t like Shatter Me at all (sorry everyone who loves it, please don’t kill me). It just didn’t do anything for me.

It may have been the eye blinking too much as you turned the page that ruined it for you.

I’m super excited for Daisy Jones and loved Evelyn Hugo but I can understand not getting behind it. However, your cyclops comment about the Defy Me series SLAYED ME.

Absolutely not. I was over her by the second book in Mortal Instruments trilogy

haha yeah I’m one of those who definitely loves Everything about the shadowhunter world. I’ve read Everything, from novella’s to full length novels and I think Clare’s writing has developed into one of the best when it comes to YA authors this day. But each their own… I just always find it a bit saddening that people dispatch of her so soon after just having read 2 books or so in the TMI series. Those were written prior to 2010. Her writing has developed sooo much over the span over 10 years, since her first TMI book came out for example. But I also understand people not wanting to dive into this world when they have to start nowadays with so many books out already. And it’s needed to read everything if you want to be able to follow the books she wrote later on for example.
I experience this with Holly Black for example. Her writing and books do Nothing for me haha so that’s a really unpopular opinion and one I don’t often dare express since people are so over the frigging moon happy about her books, lol.

Interestingly enough, Holly Black is always either a hit or miss for me. I don’t judge anyone for liking Cassandra Clare’s book… I just could not continue on that journey as I was exhausted after the first trilogy. Always express yourself though, not everyone will agree but it is great for making new book friends who keep you on your toes!
